Our Purpose
God's plan for people is evident throughout the Bible. The more one gets to know God's word, the more God reveals that plan. We have chosen as our purpose statement a summary of Isaiah's own account of his call into a lifetime of service to God as is found in Isaiah chapter 6. We believe that the process that Isaiah goes through in this account is the same process that God desires all of humanity to go through. We sum it up in five simple points:
God's Holy
I'm Not
My Heart Gets Touched
My Hand Goes Up
I Ask How Long
In this chapter, Isaiah sees a vision of the glory of God. Confronted with the reality of God's holiness Isaiah recognizes that he is not holy. He cries out, "Woe to me I am ruined!" When Isaiah confesses his own lack of holiness, an angel touches his lips the way that Jesus touches our hearts and says, "Your guilt is taken away." Isaiah's heart is now aligned with God's heart and the things that are important to God become important to Isaiah. Upon hearing God's appeal for someone to go and represent him to the people, Isaiah says, "Here I Am. Send me!" When he hears how difficult the task is before him Isaiah asks, "For How long, O Lord." In essence God answers, "Until my word is complete and my people are called."
We believe that this process is for every person. We must first recognize that God is holy. If we do not recognize that God is holy, we can never fully realize how far short we have all fallen. But when we truly recognize how holy God is, it doesn't take us long to realize that we are not holy and we need Jesus to touch our hearts. When the love of Jesus touches our hearts, making us holy, our hands will go up. If our hands are not up, our hearts may not be touched. After our hands go up and we express our desire to be used by God the question that remains, is "how long?" We believe that we are to serve God until his word has been fulfilled and his people are called, or until Jesus calls us home. Isaiah served God for more than forty years until, according to Hebrew tradition, he was sawed in half for his faith. Whatever it takes, Cross Point Church is here to serve God and to help you become a Christ follower.
